Border ChecksWest Finland Coast Guard District is responsible of border checks at border crossing points within its operational area. In the operational area of West Finland Coast Guard District, border checks are mainly performed in airports, but occasionally border checks are also being performed in ports. Border Crossing Points
Border checks are carried out only when travelled outside the Schengen area, therefore border checks do not concern people travelling within the Schengen area. Out of all border crossing points, only in the Tampere-Pirkkala airport there are regularly operated flights that require border checks. In addition, in the other airports there are occasional flights arriving or departing outside the Schengen area thus requiring border checks to be carried out.
Pleasure Craft and Merchant Vessel TrafficThe only border crossing point for pleasure craft in the operational area of the West Finland Border Guard District is in Mariehamn, Åland. For more information, contact the Coast Guard District officials in Mariehamn:
The authority responsible for border checks on merchant vessels is the Customs.
