In connection with border surveillance, the West Finland Coast Guard District participates in the surveillance and defence of the territorial integrity in Finland.

The West Finland Coast Guard District trains reservists placed in coast guard troops during military maneuvres for reservists. The West Finland Coast Guard District also trains the units of the coast guard troops in order to use them effectively in military crises and to maintain peaceful and safe conditions in the border areas of the country.
