There are five dogs working in West Finland Coast Guard District. The dogs help detect hidden people and illegal substances in vessels and vehicles. They also take part in maritime search and rescue missions. In some cases the dogs have additional training in guarding and/or tracking.
Working dogs used in maritime search and rescue mission have to be able to locate the peple lost in the wilderness or who are in difficult situations on ice or in the sea.
