Patrol Vessel Tiira
Tiira, the newest patrol vessel in the Border Guard, was built in 2004. It performs duties assigned for the Border Guard during the open water season. The main duty of the vessel is maintaining border security in co-operation with other Border Guard units. This includes the surveillance of territorial waters and the exclusive economic zone. Patrol vessel Tiira carries out various surveillance tasks such as environment, waterborne traffic and fishing supervision and urgent tasks that maintain public order and security. When offshore, the vessel is in 24 h readiness to take part in maritime search and rescue efforts and many different types of search and rescue missions are carried out by the crew. The vessel also has good facilities for and On-Scene Co-ordinator to work during a mission. The vessel’s rubber boat can be used in all weather conditions. The vessel has equipment to participate in oil destruction measures and operate in the area of chemical accident, it can be used in national defence together with the Defence Forces.
