Operation

The main duties of the West Finland Coast Guard District are maintaining the security at our borders, maritime search and rescue, surveillance of the maritime environment and prevention of environmental offences. In all duties the Coast Guard respects its values: expertise, reliability and interaction.

kuvaMaintaining the security at borders includes border surveillance, border checks on persons at border crossing points, and crime prevention. In its operational area the Coast Guard also participates in many other activities related to internal security in Finland. Further, the Coast Guard is a part of Finland's maritime defense.

In order to perform its duties efficiently, the West Finland Coast Guard District co-operates closely with other authorities, in particular the Police, Customs, Finnish Maritime Administration, Finland's environmental administration and the Navy.
